You don’t go to do one picture. You go to build a story. In the end, I believe that documentary photographers are people that love to tell stories. These stories are made with a big sequence of pictures…. Sometimes people say, “Oh, you go to make good pictures of poor people.” The people don’t understand peanuts when they say this, because I never go to do a picture. I never go to do a good picture. What is a good picture? No. I go to stay inside my story, to try to understand what’s going on, to be close to the people I photograph, and to create a flow of information that we can use to communicate something.
